Circuit Training Classes
A circuit is a circular line, route, or movement that starts and finishes at the same place. Circuit training is based on the same concept - beginning at a point and finishing at that very same point - so as you progress, the end is in mind! It is a form of conditioning, combining resistance training and high intensity aerobics. The body's physical image has no choice but to be conditioned.
If you find routines difficult to follow in dance or aerobic classes; this could be your thing. Circuit training is designed to be easy to follow - targeting strength building as well as muscular endurance.
Each workout on the circuit is intense but short-lived, which is an advantage if there is a particular exercise or peace of equipment you don't like or get on with. Yes, some people leave one circuit and beg for rest time before starting the next one. Circuit trainers have a 'cruel to be kind' way of being and you will be grateful for the 'not so gentle pushes' when your body starts to look 'circuit beautiful'. Their job is to keep you moving and that is the secret to circuits - keep moving!
Why does it work? Scientifically speaking, it pushes your body aerobically, while continually challenging strength. Alot of women reference circuit training for their high level of fitness and toned bodies whilst men are finally coming to realise that it is not a 'women only' workout. A circuit training class is quick to show them that it involves more then lifting a few lightweight dumbbells. In terms of weight lifting in circuits, it is not just about the weight lifted but the amount of sets you can get into a certain period of time. In fact it not only produces the same effect on muscles as lifting heavy weights - but it also can stimulate muscles to grow more.
So to summarise the benefits - with a circuit training class you work your aerobic system whilst working on your strength. You are also constantly progressing through the workout, so your heart rate is kept up, just as much as that guy pounding the road running a marathon or the person stuck to a treadmill for a half an hour. It keeps your mind busy - thinking 'about the next point on the circuit' or 'ways to get out of it!'. Finally due to fewest periods, you increase the amount of testosterone you release, which helps muscle growth.
Circuit training is the equivalent of a workout in the gym and circuit trainers informed us that it is also a great way to meet people!
Some circuit language to get you started include: reps, chinnies, squads, jack-knives and finally burpies! The last one promotes alot of curiosity with new-comers.
Remember, the secret to any form of exercise is to have fun. Afterall, if you're enjoying something, it won't feel like hard work at all.
